Nice umbrella for it's kind, and for most can cost you up to $1,000, but one thing they all have in common is that none of them come what they refer to as a weight (stand). However for an umbrella this size, it acts as a "sturdy stand", hence given the water filled weight. You can't have any other. As it comes, your required to bolt down two cheap cross bars into your deck or slab, which now you have drilled holes into your foundation and it can't be moved! They're all necessary for this size & type umbrellas. Just another way to show a cheaper price and somewhat hide the needed weight within the description and not flag it out in front. Once you receive the product and realize this "missing necessity", you'll need to shall out another $147. It's known as selective advertising. They certainly now the need for it. Figuratively speaking, pretty soon you'll buy a car and come to find that the engine is additional. Lastly, there's no replacement cover, which also protects the solar panel that faces straight up. The cover will rot away in less than a year, due to one's climant and there's no customer service number provided and/or link. Now you know!

Purchased the water base and 12’ umbrella. Easy assembly - but BUYER BEWARE - Step 3 (Solar Assembly) should be done PRIOR to Step 2 (Umbrella Assembly). The directions call for you to step the umbrella onto the base, and THEN deal with the Solar Panel (which would be at the top of the umbrella, some 8’ off the ground).

I was very excited to get this 12' black umbrella for our deck after reading the reviews and seeing the the beautiful pictures with assorted colors to choose from. I had purchased the large base separately which fits perfectly with the umbrella. Having a solar panel to provide energy for lighting is a great idea and marketing tool but in actuality it DOES NOT WORK THAT WAY. My issues started during the assembly where it says connect the USB wire to the solar panel and feed the wire down through the middle of the top of the umbrella.....which I did. Then I attached the umbrella to the base and opened the umbrella and discovered 2 major issues: 1) The USB wire doesn't even connect to the battery from the solar panel. 2)There was a damaged support bar underneath the umbrella (see pics)I immediately looked for the support page in the assembly and operations guide to find a website with just an email and a separate email. NO PHONE NUMBER. So I emailed my concerns and they replied 2 days later saying that the battery housing needs to be unscrewed from the under structure, plug the USB into that and then plug the other end into a phone charger which then plugs into the wall. That is not what I had in mind for a "solar panel" powered light source. So I emailed again to ask how does the solar panel work??? They replied the next day saying the only way is with the phone charger method. Sent email #3 asking for them to call me on my cell since there was no phone number listed on their website or in the manual so we can discuss all the issues I am having. They called the next day in the afternoon and I could not answer for I was seeing a patient in the middle of a procedure (dentist) so they left a message saying " I am from purple leaf and calling you"...That's it! The number was a out of ordinary number with 13 numbers in the ID. I tried to call them back but could not complete the call. Sent email #4 asking to please call during my lunch hour which is 12-1 and I will definitely answer. They emailed back the next day saying they will call during the designated time and they NEVER did!!!!! I guess it's safe to say that I am using a damaged umbrella that is not solar powered and getting by with it. My message to anyone considering buying one of these umbrellas from purple leaf is that the support is a big fat JOKE and they don't seem to put any effort to stand behind their product and make things right for the consumer.Thanks!!!

The original one broke the week we got the new one. The new one was delivered missing most of the parts needed to install it. When you deal with customer service you’re emailing with someone who doesn’t speak English fluently. They have not been able to understand our issues after MULTIPLE emails. They shipped us the new parts and included the parts we received the first time, not the parts we are missing. The original umbrella we got, that is broken, has a 1 year warranty, but I doubt they will be able to understand what happened and we will just be out $500. Go with a different company if you are looking for an umbrella. This has not been worth the hassle.

Update - I first wrote about breakage in the wind. Purple Leaf reached out and replaced the broken part of the system. So thank you for the great service... Went from 3 started to 4.First thing to point out - I have loved the two umbrellas I bought for a few months now. They are very reasonable in price and they look really good. However, last night, in 12mph winds, the main support beam broke right off. The attachment sleeve to the base stand and to be the weak spot. It is not repairable. Unless they'll replace it as a defect I'll have to buy another because I have two that are face to face on a large patio. I'll keep you posted. In the meantime, if it feels like wind is coming take them down.

We have a deck with full southern exposure and it gets hot! We debated putting up a sun sail but want to have something we can take down easily at night. We have two smaller umbrellas but even at full tilt they couldn't do half the job this thing does. The tilt makes all the difference, especially for late afternoon sun. It is also the optimum size to shade our seating area. Only drawback is the size of the base. We have ours off the deck. The footprint is quite large.

6/13/20: My wife and I just set up our new umbrella only to notice a section of stitching is missing. To be clear, this umbrella is brand new. Amazon customer service through chat offered me a $25 credit. Do they really think a $25 refund on a $489 umbrella will fix this? I imagine the hole will only grow larger as I use the umbrella and it's exposed to wind. The is completely unacceptable for such an expensive umbrella. Stay away from Purple Leaf.If Purple Leaf customer service comes through, I'll update this review. As of now, this umbrella is not worth the money. Given the seller rating for Purple Leaf, I do not have high expectations.

I love this umbrella. I purchased it in the color: cream. Is is gorgeous and looks just like the photos. You will need to purchase the additional base and a word to the wise- wait to assemble to the additional base. I spent time putting this together only to have to take the bottom cross bars off and re-attach to the base that was sold separately. I filled the additionally purchased base with water and not sand- it took approximately 22 gallons. Just a heads up, the umbrella comes with a cover as well, which I wasn’t aware of until it arrived. Very sturdy, very beautiful and well worth the investment.

Ordered 2 of these 11' umbrellas and they are absolutely top-notch quality and beautiful. This is our 3rd set of umbrellas over many years (the other 2 sets were from a big box store and Home Depot-each @ $300-$400). The small price difference is inconsequential given the quality difference we're experiencing. Don't waste the ~$100 difference to buy elsewhere, buy this quality umbrella. From experience, you'll be very happy you spend the extra money. And it comes with a really cool, functional, easy-to-use umbrella cover!Of note, online there are many questions about installation, and most point to buying the extra base for the umbrella. We didn't originally purchase the base for either because we wanted to see what it was all about. Once we did, we installed into our existing concrete patio with great results, and per husband, it was not a big deal (see pics). The install to the patio looks amazing, and takes so much less of a footprint without what we've dealt with over the years with the normal base.We did experience deliver delays and damage to one part on one umbrella, but I will be contacting the seller regarding that so they are aware.

The media could not be loaded. I get an insane amount of wind at my house, so umbrellas often have a short service life. I was hesitant to try and offset umbrella because of the wind because I was concerned it would not hold up. After such a large investment, I imagine myself being furious when it broke but it’s actually been great. It has some play in the top that allows the umbrella to shake and shift during heavy wind, similar to the design of homes in in demichurricane areas. They are designed to give a little just like this is. The umbrella base is super heavy duty and designed a hold up against wind and weight. I recommend drying any place sand before filling although the holes are fairly large which makes adding rocks, sand or water easy. The wheels on the bottom of the device make it possible to move, although I recommend finding the right place for it and leaving it as my husband has to be the one to move it. Assembly was easy and straightforward. I assembled the umbrella myself and it took only about 30 minutes. It arrived well packaged and all the individual pieces were wrapped. Assembly instructions were easy to follow with a detailed manual that was included.

I absolutely love this umbrella.I've been looking for an economical full feature patio umbrella， but it's always not easy to make a decision on buying something this big and expensive online, I read all of the reviews and decided to try this unit out as the reviews look like reliable and it had all the main features that I need. It was fairly easy to assemble and super sturdy. It came with a Large pole and metal supports, the fabric of it is so nice, it can also have a function of 360-degree rotation. We haven’t used it a lot yet. Planning to do so as to summer roll around. It covers a large section of the deck from the hot afternoon sun, our entire 4 lounge chair area can be easily covered. I'm so pleased with it I'm thinking of buying a second one for the upcoming summer, highly recommended.

This is a the high quality cantilever umbrellas. It has a tough center pole and umbrella branches. The canvas cover is made with durable material. We put the quite heavy sand bag to secure the base. This umbrella is 10 feet wide and covered a huge area. It’s easy to operate. My 12 year old can crank up and down and lock it into place easily. This aluminum poles has artificial wood grain which is beautiful.We got 20mph wind gusts another day and the umbrella was standing without any issues. However, it’s necessary to crank it down during the wind or storm. It’s very easily to assemble. Took my husband about 30 minutes to set it up.

Where do I begin? This patio umbrella is everything and more than I wished for. I am so glad that I did my research prior to.the purchase and got the correct base that goes with this umbrella. We needed shade on our patio because it is full sun from sunrise to sunset. We looked at pergolas, but they would require a permanent fixture to the patio got the supports at we are not sure if we are going to put in a hot tub too, so this was the perfect option. Plus there are no installation fees, and it is about ¼ the cost of a pergola. If you are thinking of getting one of these umbrellas, I highly recommend getting one with matching base. It is easy to assemble, very sturdy, and an exceptional value for your money. Very well designed & built. When this one finally wears out, I will be getting g another one. We got the 9'x12' and we LOVE IT!

This is my 4th umbrella in 25 years. I decided to splurge and by a higher end model. I purchased the PURPLE LEAF 10' x 13' foot umbrella. My deck is 20' x 12' feet and this umbrella covered the area above the table perfectly, and kept the sun neutralized. The quality is superb. Both the fabric, metal crank gears, tension cables and pole were above and beyond what expected in durability and strength. The metal post and umbrella stand are very thick metal. Overall a very solid unit. Everything about this umbrella is top notch.I also purchased the matching base, PURPLE LEAF Offset Umbrella Base Cantilever Umbrella Base, 330 pounds 39" x 39". It was extremely easy to assemble, attach the umbrella stand with 4 bolts to the base, filled base with water(no need for sand, is unmovable", slide the umbrella onto the base, tighten final bolt to stand, done.I'm very happy with the look and quality. I would buy this product again.

Once I saw that the base is sold separately I had already opened the large box. So I had to order the bad and wait 4 days for it to come in. Once it arrived then found no assembly hardware came in with of the boxes. So if to Lowes with no luck trying to find #8x1.25x35mm bolts. Then got lucky at Home Depot and back to the house to assemble. Once together found that it is a breeze to put together and well made. If you have strong winds you better be ready to add some weight to the base. I add 150 lbs of lead shot along with 160 lbs of base rock to keep it up right. Can’t wait for summer to see how it holds up to opening and closing along with rotating. That’s it for now

Beautiful Craftsman Style Umbrella!!! We did not use the legs due to the water tending to pool in this area, & instead used a block of pressure treated, painted wood as a base. Bracketed the pole to the cement filled wall, & did not need to secure the base to the cement patio! Also, for my preference, i set it so it never closes, because of the need to keep the day-bed dry. However, brackets could have been placed lower to allow for the slide, & been just as stable. The base & pole came mounted slightly off, so i went with the square of the pole itself. Then, we just lifted the umbrella, & dropped it into place! Bungeed umbrella to several places, with a small hook on a gate, on a roof timber, & on a tree post, & she is now very stable! If i ever need to replace the umbrella, i will be able to easily drop the new umbrella top into the exisitng fixed base. Nothing moved at all in a recent storm... not even a wiggle! The double-top venting must help also with it not behaving like a kite. Umbrella material was flawless, the textured aluminum matches the redwood pieces, & the aluminum is like the side chairs, & is lovely when you look up & see the rails. There was one small ding & bend in one umbrella stake. Very large umbrella... a square uses far more material for a 10 x 10 than a ten foot round. Reminds me of a Camp Curry tent in Yosemite Valley! Expensive, & yet exactly what i wanted. A cream colored umbrella may get dirty, yet it won't fade out. Absolutely Gorgeous! I actually posted pics on fb. Truly pleased! Nice & tight material, so no dirt will gather in the folds. First rain, & water poured off it in rivulets, like a car windshield! Beautiful!ADDENDUM: Nearly a full year later, & it is still clean, strong, & almost flawless. Go with this light tone, it is a winner! All i have done is rinse it off with the hose during the California fires dropping soot & ash. Looks perfect still, & still left open!

Nice umbrella with some downsides. Relatively easy to put together and erect (I did this with no assistance), but instructions are pictures with no written instructions and the pictures are not printed large enough or clear enough. Used the larger, water-filled base, which seemed adequate at first. Umbrella is fairly stable with a steady breeze of up to about 10 mph. In gusty conditions, the umbrella cannot be depended on to stay upright. During a light breeze, there was a sudden gust of approximately 10-15 mph and the umbrella toppled. I was able to catch it before it went over completely, but it was difficult. A smaller individual would not have been able to do this and could potentially be injured in the attempt. I'm certain it would have been damaged had it gone over completely and would have been difficult to set upright. Fair warning - It cannot be left unattended in gusty conditions. I am disappointed that the umbrella cannot be trusted to stay upright. I think I'll have to attach it to a steel plate bolted to the concrete deck in order to fully appreciate this umbrella. I would appreciate a recommendation regarding fixed attachment to concrete deck.

I've looked at these large umbrellas for a long time. They can be purchased for as little at $100 or as much as $11,000. This umbrella, for the money, is fantastic. There were a few challenges in assembly, but probably my errors and the lack of any words on the instruction sheets. We got the Sunbrella fabric, so it was a bit more than the "base" fabric choices. It's a huge upgrade to the yard, looks beautiful and works great. I also just used water to fill up the base because we plan to move it when we remodel our yard, and the water keeps the umbrella very stable. No sand needed, in my opinion. Not sure how the hardware will hold up in the rain (so a little concerned about a few areas where rust could happen).

First off, the company no longer exists so if you have issues with this umbrella you’re screwed. Second, the holes drilled in the plastic base were about 1/4 of an inch off so attaching the metal frame was a nightmare (also the instructions are useless)-. Third, if you fill the base per the instructions, it is too heavy to maneuver AT ALL WITHOUT the base cracking so you better get it exactly where you want it before you fill it and if you want to be able to adjust it throughout the day as the sun moves…sorry, you’re gonna be completely SOL.

Sturdy. Large. Good looking. Easy to use and adjust. Seems durable.Only concern was that it was very, very difficult to connect the bottom metal bar to the base. I am a big strong guy, but the base was slightly bent or warped and I was only able to put it together by using the weight-lifting skills (muscles) of my grandson. I assume this is a one-off problem. Loved it for three weeks... had it up on HOT sunny days, excellent shade, easy to rotate and change tilt.Today weather shows 6 mph gusts... maybe it got up to 8 mph?whatever; the umbrella flipped over tearing out two seams and ripping a hole where it hit a roof flashing! It is so heavy i had to hire help to set it up, and called helper back today to help pick it up off deck floor.I verified that the Purple Leaf enormous base was still topped off with water; the gusts are still nothing more than a breeze. I am heart sick at spending $600- using it for less than a month and only on occasions that I was home with little to no wind.The base the umbrella comes with: either bolt it down to the floor or toss it out.Fill the Purple leaf with sand? yes heavier... the hole is small... and in future you want to empty it? how? small hole... heavy... is sand heavy enough? or does it really need to be bolted to floor?ANOTHER THING: the delivered package was missing parts... washers and bolts/screws -Reported to the seller but never heard back... finally did it myself: it took many trips to hardware store to find proper bolts to fix it to the base...I feel devastated... this was going to be a great solution to hot sun beaming into sliding glass doors and it was super wonderful for the few times I used it successfully.

I read all the other reviews and spent a good amount of time researching before buying. I chose this umbrella because a guy had a really nice video showing how easy it was to set up and the heavy duty quality of the construction. I live at the beach and it gets very windy. I also chose because it has the rotating 365 degree option. Out of the box everything looked great and set up was very easy! I bought the purple leaf base you definitely need a base whether you are in a windy place or not. The umbrella has a very nice tiered canopy that lets air flow and it can be titled up to 90 degrees to act like a sun screen when the sun is really low. Fabric is good and the steel frame and the steel umbrella construction is top notch. Make sure you remove all the protective pads and tape under inside the umbrella before trying to crank all the way open. While sturdy, its so big we cannot use in strong winds. A very nice cover comes with the umbrella with a rod that helps you reach high up to put it on and it covers the steel support and umbrella. Again...buy the base ($70) that matches the umbrella you definitely need it.

At first I was hesitant on spending such a large amount of money on an outdoor umbrella. I have owned a few and normally throw them away after a year or two. This umbrella is a complete game changer, and I love it. It has two handles that help you move the umbrella into almost any direction to block the sun. My backyard faces South, so the sun sits ontop of me almost all day. I was able to sit on my patio all day and only adjusted the umbrella 3 times. Since I live by the water, I do have a fair amount of wind come through and the umbrella holds up rather nicely. I did spend the extra money and bought the holder that came with the umbrella and suggest that you do also. The holder helps the umbrella move from left to right when needed

The media could not be loaded. This umbrella is both inexpensive and of high quality. The instructions were simple to follow, and assembly was simple and convenient. Easy to assemble by myself . I like how easy it is to close and open the umbrella by simply cranking the reel. Furthermore, I like that this can be changed at various angles depending on the position of the sun. The fabric is dense, which gives it a cool sheen. Since the fabric is heavy, it provides a lot of shade.It’s recommended i use a heavy weighted base to hold it down or bolt it to the ground. This umbrella was far larger than I had expected. It allows me to keep my whole deck set in the shade.

Since our new patio is very sunny all day, it was imperative to find the perfect umbrella and this is it!! It was very easy to follow the assembly instructions, even though it was all illustrated. We were very impressed with the actual construction of the pieces. It seems very sturdy. The umbrella fabric is very strong and of high quality. When opening the umbrella, you must make sure it’s seated properly inside. It was a little windy which was a good test to see how well it swivels. It definitely passed the test.The base was filled with the recommended sand and water and it did take two of us to move it (one at the base and the other on the frame). Of course you must close the umbrella before moving it. A Velcro strap comes with it which works well to secure the umbrella when closed. We did decide to also buy the cover for storage during the winter months.We are very happy with this item and absolutely recommend it. The price was perfect, too!

Crank handle broke with first use. Not even a full turn.IF you still decide to purchase this, you should be aware of other issues. The instruction page is all pictures and not clear on several steps. Parts shown that don't exist and parts included that aren't pictured. During assembly, one bolt hole had to be reamed because the edge was off center. "Wrench" supplied looks like a toy and doesn't fit the bolts.

This is a great umbrella. it was easy to put together and get set up. I like how it opens and can tilt to get the sun out. Its easy to open with the handle. Its has a good canvas materials and it's very durable and sturdy. we are going to put this on the patio near the pool. I like that we can move it where we want it. It's a very nice umbrella. it's good made and I like the color I got. It covers a big area from the sun. It was easy to put it together. The price is good for a good nice umbrella. Its very strong made and I like the way it looks on my patio.

This is a fantastic umbrella! It is quite durable. I like this champagne in color 11 FT. We are quite pleased with our purchase. It was simple to assemble. The hardware operates nicely and is simple to set up and take down. The shade material is quite durable. This umbrella is fantastic! Durable on windy days. I used a combination of sand and water to make the base sturdy enough for this 11 foot wide umbrella! The base is solid, but it isn't meant to be used to support sand or water. I can spin the shade almost entirely around in a 360-degree circle before latching into one of the teeth thanks to the foot pedal. The bags inside the base are composed of thick green rubber and can hold sands. I choose to begin by placing sand into the green bag and then some play weight sand. The two green bags contain clips to bind them securely around the pole before placing the two cover pieces back on top. We don't move it very frequently, but it is heavy. This huge cantilever patio umbrella's pole is made of upgraded extra-thick aluminum, which makes it lighter while improving strength and longevity. It comes with a foundation and a sand bag. Please fill the foundation with sand to provide stability. In comparison to other umbrella bases on the market, The bases incorporate a pedal that regulates the aluminum rod's 360° rotation. The crank lift mechanism allows for quick opening and closing of the umbrella. The inclination angle is greater than that of contemporary patio umbrellas on the market. I am happy with this patio umbrella. Loves it it give me instant shade.

Believe what other says about wind, this umbrella can't take any. It can take a mild breeze but that's all. A rain was coming in off the bay and it started to get windy, we saw right away because it's in front of the window we look out of, the umbrella was moving around. When we went to put it down it would go all the way, couldn't get the straps around it, it had already bent. My husband thinks he can fix it.I don't like constantly winding it up and down because other have said the handle brake's off, so was taking it easy on that.It's a great umbrella. Huge it needs a 2 in dia base that is heavy because this umbrella is heavy. We have it in a 6 person table and it shades everybody when the sun is directly over head. So, if you live somewhere with no wind only breeze's or you only have it up when you are out this is the umbrella for you!

This item needs the weighted base sold separately. This cannot stand on its own because when opened, it falls over. So basically you have to spend an additional $70 to use it. Can’t really say if it’s worth the money if other similar items come with the weighted base.I did not rate my stars on the following but.. I ordered yellow and was sent cream. My husband assembled it not knowing. When I came home to realize it was the wrong product, it was too late.Very very disappointed with this shipping mistake. I really wanted the yellow.

The plastic gear cover came broken. I tried to return and it got denied. It’s unfortunate because it’s such a small and insignificant part that makes a big difference with how it looks. Now I’m stuck with a $600 umbrella with a broken part.3/30/22 update - JEARY reached out and assured me that 1) they'd replace the part and that 2) they didn't deny the return and that it must have been Amazon. I'll come back and update this to 4-5 stars if they part gets delivered because otherwise this is pretty great umbrella.5/10/22 update - JEARY did indeed provide the fixed piece. Can't ask for much more. The umbrella itself is great.

The media could not be loaded. We did not know that the fabric canopy swings back and forth in a very light breeze. We thought it would be a stable canopy. We also ordered the weight bag and filled it with sand to stabilize the base like the company advised...that is not the problem. The way the fabric canopy is attached is the problem...it just hangs loosely and moves constantly.Unfortunately, we got busy sending our kids to college and missed the return window for this umbrella. Just know that if you are standing near the umbrella ....it can hit you in the face! ouch!

It was "moderately" easy to put together. It does have roller wheels if you want to move it around. I didn't. I wanted it stable, so went to the extra trouble of laying out a concrete slab for it with stabilizer eye-hooks. That's probably overkill for most folks, but this is windy ole Oklahoma, and the size can be a little unstable. That said, this is the perfect fit for my patio (see photo). I wanted a cantilever AND a tilting umbrella and this does both. It is a hugely successful and beautiful addition to our back patio, making it totally useable again in the summertime evening.

It came from Canada so it measured 320 Centimetres so it's not a full 12 feet. It's a little over 11 1/2 feet. Also I did not get the poles that extend from the base for more stability. I contacted the seller and got no reply.
